It's All About Trust
Although we've written about this before we feel it's worth mentioning again as more and more these days people are falling prey to scams.
According to the UK Cards Association and Financial Fraud Action (FFA UK) between 2013 and 2014 there was a 24% rise in online banking fraud and financial fraud losses rose by a further 6% in the first half of 2015.
From the call from "Microsoft" (not Microsoft) saying that they've detected a problem on your PC and need you to give them control (which allows them to hijack your PC and hold it to ransom); to the letter through the post saying you've won millions and to collect your money you should send a processing fee; to the call from your bank (not your bank) saying that your account has been hacked and they need to take your details so they can prevent further money being withdrawn (have you seen the recent Barclays advert called Fraud Smart: The Imposter) to the number of online scams and fake websites taking payments for goods and services they will never provide, including fake hotel booking websites - it's getting harder and harder these days to know who to trust.
Online Hotel Booking
With fake hotel booking sites appearing on the web even a savvy person can sometimes fall prey to a scam. In a previous article we mentioned some ways you can "check out" sites to ensure they are real. Alternatively you can "go direct" to the hotel to book your room or arrange your conference or you can entrust your hotel and conference room bookings to a reputable company hotel booking agent who will do the research and phoning around for you.
